Stevie
Stevie, 10, took time to answer some impromptu questions for MS. Here's how he
responded:

When you grow up, what do you want to do?
A fireman.

Do you already know somebody who’s a fireman?
No, my grandma, she don’t put out fires, but she
work there.

You’ve been to the fire station before?
Yeah, I’ve been there plenty of times.

How will you become a fireman?
By doing all my work, and getting an education
at college.

What do your parents do?
My mom works at school, and my dad is a pest control.

What does your mom do at school?
Teach first grade.

And what does your dad do as "a pest control," does he go to people’s
houses?
Yeah, and spray bugs and everything. Sometimes he spreads poison in the
yard, so that bugs can die.

Does he spray bugs at your house, too?
Sometimes.

What else do your parents do?
They take us to church every Sunday.

Why do they take you to church?
So I can play the drums and we can learn about God.

What do your parents do at church?
Pray and praise God, and my dad preach.

What does your mom do there?
My mom collects the offering, and counts it, and puts it in an envelope and
stuff.

What do you do at church?
Play the drums.

Did you start doing that on your own, or did somebody tell you to do it?
I started doing it on my own.

What do you think about giving money at church?
I think it’s very good because we keep the church running and uh keep
the lights on and the bills.

Do you give your own money?
Yeah.

What happens to that money?
Sometimes it goes to a bank.

What happened to you recently at church with the offering?
Oh, once he said to put $25 in and I only had $1, so I put that up. I put all my
money up, and then he told me to come up, and gave me $37. And then he
prayed for my hands.

What did the preacher say when he prayed for your hands?
I forgot, kind of.

So when you gave your only dollar, you got back $37?
Yeah.

Is that the most money you’ve ever had?
No, once I saved up $60.

And what’d you do with it?
I spent it.

What did you buy?
I bought my sisters some ice cream, and I bought me a toy, and some other
stuff.

Did you buy anything for your parents?
I think so.

What did you do with the $37?
I still have money left from it, but I bought the girls ice cream from the ice
cream truck and I bought a new game.

You like buying things for your sisters?
Yeah, kind of.

That’s very nice of you. Do you know who Barak Obama is?
Yeah, he’s going to be the next president, if people elect for him. And I
think he’s a good man, because he’s the first black American president
running.

What does it mean when people elect someone?
People vote and people talk about good stuff about him, or bad stuff.

You think they will say good stuff or bad stuff about Mr. Obama?
Good stuff.

What will you do if he wins and becomes president of the United States?
I would jump all around and be so happy!

What does the president do? What’s his job?
He protects the country, and does lots of paperwork.

Really? What kind of paperwork?
Like, bills and he helps people get houses and stuff.

How does  he protect the country?
By soldiers and by his brain.

His brain?
Yeah, he thinks a lot.

What do you think he thinks about?
I think he thinks of all the people in the world and how they’re being safe,
and how they’re being injured, and how he wants to help them.

How do you think he will help them?
By putting the bills low and putting the gases prices at about 75 cents.

I would love that! What about the president we have now?
Um, I think he’s a good man and all.

What’s your favorite subject?
Um, math, no, reading.

You have any books at home?
Naruto. I have so many of them. That’s a show, and it has about four shows
in the book.

Is it a show on TV?
Yeah, and a movie. It comes on the Cartoon Network.

What do you do with the books when you’re finished reading them?
I look at who wrote the book and all. I’ll read the stuff I didn’t read, like the
boring stuff.

So you watch the show every day?
Every Saturday at 9 o'clock on the Cartoon Network.

You like hanging with boys only, not your sisters?
Both.

How many sisters do you have?
Three.

Tell me one Bible story. Your best one.
I pick the lions’ den.

What happened with that?
He got thrown in the lions’ den because he didn’t worship the statues and
the artifacts, and he only worshipped Jesus.

Who was that?
Wait, I know this name, what is it again? Hold on [Stevie asks someone],
"What’s the dude’s name that got thrown in the lion’s den?"
Daniel. … Then the
king told the people to worship the statues. Then Daniel didn’t do it. Then
they told the king on him and the king had him put in the lions’ den. The
king went a few days later and Daniel wasn’t dead. The king found out that
the people were tricking him. And the king threw them in the den. Not the
kids and the wives — that would be harsh. Just the uncles, and probably
the dads.

Wow, and what else?
The king helped Daniel, and broke up the law, and told everybody to
worship Daniel’s God.

What’s your favorite sport?
Football.

Who is your favorite football player?
Um, C.J. Jones and Anquan Boldin.

Why?
Because they are both my cousins, and they’re really good, and they made
the team.

Anything else you want to talk about?
Yeah, how did you get this job?
Me? Well, I prayed and God talked to me and told me that this is what He
wanted me to do as a way to help encourage other people; make them
smile and laugh; and help them to remember and be closer to Him.
Oh.

Anything else?
Nope.
