We asked Ryan, 10, to answer some impromptu questions for us. Here’s how
he responded:
Have you ever gotten any special awards at school?
I got scientist of the month.
Do you like science better than any other subject?
I like math more than I like science, but I do
science better than I do math.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
A fireman.
That’s a good one. Why do you want to be a fireman?
To help people and save people. Because one day
they might grow up and save me. When I’m an old
person, like when I’m a citizen.
What will you have to do to become a fireman?
Get my education, go to school, and do my work.
So what will it take to become a fireman, after you get your education?
You have to go to a certain place so they can teach you how to be a
fireman.
What will you do if it takes a really long time?
I’ll just wait for them to teach me how to do it and then I’ll do the job. …
I think it will be hard, but I can do it by passing the tests, by learning …
God will help me.
What are your chores at home?
Make up my bed, take out the garbage, and clean the dishes.
Wow! Why do you think you should do chores?
To help my mom. If my brother is not there to take out the garbage, I’ll
take it out. Sometimes my mom, she’ll wake me up from a deep sleep to
take out the garbage.
Do you exercise?
Yeah, I do push-ups and sit-ups.
How many push-ups can you do?
Like 30.
Why do you think it’s a good idea to exercise?
So I can’t be obesity.
What’s obesity?
When you eat a lot, and then you don’t exercise and you start to build
up and be fat. Your heart has to pump a lot of blood and stuff in your
body so it can circulate all around your body and it’s not good for
people like that. That’s why some people take their children to the
doctor a lot times. … This girl was on The Maury Povich Show and she
was 120 pounds and she was only 2 years old. Her mom fed her whole
chickens and big dinners and stuff. She’ll start to cry and her mom
would give her a lot of food.
And then what happened at the end of the show?
Well, like a week later she came out skinny.
What does the preacher talk about at church?
How we should be in our lives and stuff. Like, praise God and all that.
He created us and He died for our sins for a reason. So that we can live
long on the earth … then some people go to Heaven and some people
go to the devil if they have not been respecting God or not believing
God and not going to church.
What do you learn about in Sunday School?
I learned that Elijah said that you’re going to have a baby, this time next
year. He promised this lady and then this boy had died and then Elijah
came and prayed over the boy and then the blood started circulating
and he woke up and he sneezed seven times.
How do you think Elijah did that? With what power?
God.
Do you tell others about Jesus?
I say that God is looking down on you guys and you guys are doing the
wrong things. My cousins listen to me because they know I will tell their
mom.
What will happen at the rapture?
I think I’m going to go to Heaven. Because I believe in God and I go to
church and I serve Him and I pray and I hope that I go to Heaven. If I
don’t go to Heaven, it’s because I don’t treat people good.
